Lauren will be turning 5 on Saturday. It's hard to believe how quickly the time has flown by. She has certainly kept us on our toes during her little lifetime but I'm thankful for every minute with our fearless, strong, bull-headed, loving daughter. We're having a joint circus birthday party for her and our sweet little 1-year old. Family start arriving today! I'm so excited and just can't wait!

where in the WORLD did you get those outfits???
Hi Christi,
You're so sweet! Thank you so much! I'm not a photographer on the side but I do subject my children (much to their dismay) to my own version of a photo shoot quite a lot! :)
Hi Tara,
I found the girls' jackets and the baby's tuxedo on ebay for $9.99 each!! I added the gold fringe and red flower. I made their skirts myself. The harlequin fabric is by Michael Miller. Lauren's top is really just a basic white tank top with pre-ruffled trim (from Joann's Fabrics) stitched on top of it. Her top hat is from Michael's (the doll's section) and the feather is from there also. Her boots came from Janie and Jack. Anna's shirt and socks along with Jacob's shirt came from Target. I had the best time pulling bits and pieces together!
oh my goodness, how ADORABLE! i love their little animals and moustaches. so sweet.
This is truely ridiculously just THE BEST!!!!!
Stunning. The outfits, the styling, the photos - you are very talented!
All the party details look great but the outfits REALLY take the cake.
Oh my! These photos are gorgeous!
Hi!
I came across your blog because I'm throwing a circus themed baby shower. I'm wondering about your flag banner. It's SO cute....did you make it yourself? Thanks so much!
Hi Ellen,
I did make the banners myself. I found the fabric at Beverly's Crafts. It's by Michael Miller-Quarter Dot in Aqua. Have a great baby shower!
Sandy
This is sooo cool!!
I'm in love with the ringmaster mustaches. I did a search for them but no luck. Did you make that yourself as well? How'd they stick on?
Hi Rachelle,
I made the mustaches we used in the photo booth with family but purchased the stick-on mustaches for the shots with the kids. I found them in the "fiesta" section at Party City. They're called "Moustaches" and are by amscan. Hope that helps!
I love how you used the Joann's letters for your sign; I see them all the time and they just beg me to do something with them! I'm so inspired, and I can't wait to share your party with my readers!
Love your creativity! awesome decor & the outfits bring it over the top, great job!!
What an awesome party...I have been looking for a large galvanized bucket for EVER now and can't find one for the life of me...where did you get yours and what kind of paint did you use??
Also I am in love with the elephant statue..where did you find that?? My sons party is in 7 weeks and I've been planning for months..can't wait to see how it turns out...its a 1st birthday for 300 people so we shall see how putting on such a big circus will turn out.... :p. Thanks for the ideas.
Hi Kassie,
I found the bucket at either Lowe's or Home Depot. I can't remember which...sorry .:( I just used a standard craft paint from Joann's fabrics in the colors I liked. The elephant is just a toy from the nicer small animal figurine section in Michael's. Good luck with your party. That's huge! I admire you for taking on such a big party....WOW! :)
Stunning. Truly stunning. I've been planning a vintage carnival first birthday for the wee one. You are inspiring. How lovely.
The most darling circus crew in the UNIVERSE!!!
Amazing detail...just adore it! I am trying to make the circus sign...can you tell me how you put the christmas lights in the letters? The letters I got, which look the exact same as yours, have a back side, so not sure how you got them inside...? Any guidance would be appreciated so much..thanks for being so inspiring!!! Hi Sandy, I went to joanns today and all the fabric choices and prices were crazy to me ( esp. with an escape artist with me in a stroller)Would you please tell me if you remember the kind of fabric you used for the big top. Please help me and thank you so much for actually answering your comments..so many people dont. You are the best!!
Hey its me again, also if you would share the same information with me about the paper mache letters on getting through them. Did you drill through them as well? Thanks
Hi Sarah,
The "fabric" used for the red and white big top was actually rolls of plastic tablecloth from Party City. They're relatively inexpensive for the amount of tablecloth you get $15 for 100 feet). They're usually found toward the end of an aisle and are stacked vertically. Here's a link: http://www.partycity.com/product/red+plastic+table+cover+roll+100ft+x+40in.do?sortby=ourPicks&pp=100&size=all
My husband just measured, cut, and strung it up.
As for the circus sign, my dad, stepdad, and husband did all of the actual construction but from what I can gather, it went like this:
They lined the letters up on the piece of wood where we wanted them to go and traced them out. They removed the letters, evenly marked out where the lights should go inside the tracing and drilled holes through the piece of wood inside the lines. They laid the letters back down inside the lines and using a round drill bit drilled from the bottom of the board up through the holes they had already made and into the backside of the letters. Of course, the hole into the board and into the backside of the letter can be as big as you need it to be to get the lights in. I think ours were about an inch. When I asked, my stepdad said 1/2", my dad said 3/4" and my husband said 1". I think the bigger the better because you need to fit the strands of lights inside and be able to position that one little bulb. When they drilled through into the letter they carefully punched a small hole in the top part of the letter just to mark it. They then used a smaller drill bit and made the hole look nicer from the top side of the letter being careful to make it just big enough for the tip of the light to poke through. You want it fairly small/tight as this is what holds it in place. After this, they painted the board and the letters, attached Christmas lights to the back of the board with duct tape and placed the lights inside the letters.
I hope this helps!
Sandy
Lovely pics! Love to see SAHMs loving what they do. Looking forward to sharing more with you! Keep on having fun!
Love these costumes! I will have to see what I can come up to make something like this for my little girl to wear to her brother's birthday party. TFS!
Hi! I found your amazing blog by searching for circus party ideas! Wow you are so talented! I'm wondering about the ceiling thing you had that was red and white with the buntings. I actually found that picture on a different website and it lead me to yours. I want to make one for my son's first birthday and need help! Do you still have the one you used? And all those beautiful buntings? Can you e-mail me jodibet84@yahoo.com please.
This party is a.ma.zing! Thanks for sharing! I feel so inspired as now as I'm putting together this theme for my baby's 1st birthday party! I was wondering if you had a picture of your big top?...I read comments about the "fabric" you used, but didn't see a photo...

If you still had this outfit (red jacket, white shirt, skirt) and the size (looking for 4+) I would love to purchase it from you.
