We began the day on Saturday by visiting Hearst's "Casa Grande" on the Enchanted Hill. We were so excited because Doug and Jacob decided to come along with us. We weren't sure how our busy three year old would fare around priceless pieces of art but he actually did very well. He told us on the bus ride down, "I be good." As a matter of fact, his favorite part of the day turned out to be the bus ride. He thought it was a-may-sing!
I have this exact photo in my photo album from 20 years ago. It was nice to see it again.
Doug and I loved the ceilings.
I love the story they tell about guests' placement at the main dining table. When you first arrive you're seated near the head of the table by Mr. Hearst. As your welcome wears thin, you move farther and farther down the table. One guest remarked it took him a while but he finally figured out what was going on. He was convinced if he had stayed one more night, his place setting would have been on the floor!
The caryatids in the theater were impressive.
The Neptune Pool
Wouldn't this be a nice place to sit and while away the afternoon!
Jacob liked this "jungle".
The Roman pool...
I've mentioned in the past how funny Jacob's expressions are from frame to frame. Here's a short example. Watch his face throughout!

What a fun outing! I love Hearst Castle! I have a picture just like one of yours of the Roman pool from about 15 years ago.
