San Luis Obispo Mini-vacation, Day 3

On Sunday morning, we drove into San Luis Obispo and visited the San Luis Obispo Mission in between services.  The Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa was founded by Father Junipero Serra on 1 September, 1772 and was named after Saint Louis, the Bishop of Toulouse, France. The Mission is located in the "Valley of the Bears", so named due to the abundance of grizzlies in the area at the time.

The trees and flowers in and around the mission were so lush.

 I'm always playing catch-up!
 Inside the mission...

We took a quick break for cake pops.  This particular one was especially yummy.

All was well as is evident by the following photo, at least until Jacob tried to take a bite that was too large and knocked the cake pop off its stick and onto the ground.  Anna was not very pleased.

Next stop was Bubblegum Alley, yep, you read right...Bubblegum Alley.  Two walls covered in the stuff.

It was disgusting and interesting all at the same time.
Some bubblegum chewers had even gotten creative with their product of post-mastication and expressed lovely sentiments.
The kids felt the need to "express" some creativity as well and so we set out to add to the sticky mess.
The kids chewed a little, blew a few bubbles, and then...
...set about sticking their own gum on the wall.  I gave specific instructions to only touch their gum as they pressed it on the wall.

We then sanitized, washed, and explored the creek along the Mission Plaza.

After lunch and an afternoon nap for the kiddos, we drove out to my favorite beach of the trip, Montana de Oro.  It was breathtaking!
The kids immediately headed in different directions.  So much to see and do and so little time.

Doug managed to get them all in one spot for a brief moment.

Then it was back to each man for himself.

I think this is the only picture of me from the entire weekend.  I promise I dressed better when we were out and about.

I loved this hill of orange flowers.

The next day we made the drive home and into the heat.  On our vacation temps ranged from around 56 degrees to 78 degrees.  When we pulled into our driveway, it was 106 degrees.  Yikes!  I wanted to turn around and drive back to the crisp air.  We all enjoyed ourselves a ton.  It was great to get away.  We hope to do something similar at least once more before the summer is over!
